DELTA Workshop was a one-week full-immersion experience in Tactical Urbanism focused on reactivating an ordinary parking lot in Prato, Tuscany, into a lively public space.
Under the guidance of the studio ECÒL, and in collaboration with IPER-collettivo, 15 participants - selected from around 100 applicants - took part in all phases of the project, from site analysis and community engagement to the implementation of the intervention.
The site, situated between the Soccorso district, a declassified ring road, and the area south-east of the First Industry, faces both infrastructural challenges and social pressures due to its diverse communities. Traditionally used as a car park, the space obstructs safe pedestrian crossings while hosting the weekly neighborhood market. The project emphasized reuse, recycling and low-cost materials, combining painted surfaces with modular structures inspired by Prato’s textile tradition, creating a multifunctional space that balances public life, market activity, and pedestrian accessibility.
