The project aims to reconnect the citizens of Le Havre with their city’s history and memory, deeply marked by the destruction of World War II. Today, the rebuilt city dominated by concrete feels cold and impersonal, provoking mixed feelings of love and hate among its inhabitants.
The new memorial seeks to transform this detachment into understanding and affection through a sensory journey that links interior and public spaces. The museum offers three paths - Historical, Sensory, and Rebirth - representing a process of transformation and learning.
In contrast to the sorrow evoked by the memory of war, nature symbolizes life and hope: the surrounding gardens provide spaces to reflect, explore, connect, or be alone, encouraging positive emotions. In essence, the project proposes a sensory journey rooted in memory, respect and nature, allowing people to rediscover and reconcile with the identity of Le Havre.
