Rural Theatre

Set within the rolling hills of the Marche region, the Rural Theatre project is developed around a historic ruin shaped by faith, craftsmanship, and rural tradition. The open-air theatre introduces a contemporary yet reversible architectural layer that preserves the memory of the site while allowing adaptation to future needs.

Rather than imposing monumental forms, the project adopts a minimal and sensitive approach, respecting both the landscape and the local community. Its aim is to safeguard rural identity while responding to changing cultural and social demands through a flexible, ephemeral, and low-cost design strategy.

Rooted in the agricultural heritage of the Marche—historically defined by wheat cultivation and rural houses—the project draws directly from vernacular architecture principles: the use of natural materials, autonomy, evolutionary adaptability, and functional simplicity. In doing so, it establishes a sustainable balance between past and present, tradition and innovation, people and place.
